The Sport England Community Fund has announced expanded eligibility criteria for the 2026/27 financial year, allowing more grassroots football clubs to access grants of up to £25,000 for facility improvements, equipment purchases, and youth development initiatives.
Previously, smaller clubs in certain areas were unable to meet minimum criteria. The revised scheme now recognizes diverse community contexts and includes dedicated support for clubs serving disadvantaged neighborhoods, rural areas, and underrepresented groups in youth football.
Applications opened on 1 July 2026, with a deadline of 31 August. Clubs interested in applying are encouraged to contact their County FA for guidance on the application process. Common funded activities include pitch maintenance, coaching staff development, safeguarding infrastructure, and programmes targeting girls' participation.
Local authority support and partnerships with larger professional clubs have also strengthened, creating pathways for grassroots organizations to access resources and expertise previously out of reach.
